Hi! I'm Kelly.

As a writer, I've always been interested in family stories. When I heard of a Satanic cult in my family tree, I thought I'd found the story of a lifetime. Read more.

The Five of Coins

The Five of Coins

I bought a tarot deck last week, after reading The Creative Tarot by Jessa Crispin.

I’d always considered tarot decks a silly sort of fortune telling, akin to Ouija boards, but Crispin positions them as less of a divination tool than a springboard into the symbolism of the subconscious.

She writes:

”After noticing the way the cards hook into your intuition and imagination, I realized they could easily be used to assist in the creative process. When stuck on a piece, I’d pull some cards to find clarity, or I’d use them to figure out how to structure it.”

I pulled two cards since I bought the deck, one today and one yesterday, just to see what I’d get. Both times I pulled the five of coins. I’d shuffled well in between, so in a deck of 78 cards, the coincidence was creepy.

Fitting, though, when you see the leg of the man in the foreground.

The universe has a good sense of humor.
