I did some splashy abstract paintings this afternoon while the baby napped. I dragged The Best Table onto the deck and mixed some cheap acrylic paint with water in old yogurt containers. Then I dripped, dabbed and smeared the paint onto 90 lb. drawing paper.
I was trying to mimic the style of artist Heather Day. A blog post of hers popped up in my feed reader earlier this morning and the images made me swoon. The colors! The textures! The sheen of the acrylics!
It was unseasonably warm out, almost 90 degrees, so the paint dried quickly. The blue green palette reminds me of sea glass. Next: additional layers of paint, or maybe some pastels.
Hopefully I'll get another session in tomorrow. My mind is alive with possibilities.
