Ready for New Adventures
Last night I was reading my email and came across Submittable's weekly newsletter. It contained a fellowship that fit my memoir and included some editorial support. So I edited my current cover letter and the chapter I'd workshopped with my writer friends the day before, and sent them both. It felt so good to do something to honor the book, to nudge it back out into the world.
In putting the submission together, I looked over my past work with new eyes. There are some charged, powerful pieces, but nothing that really encapsulates the book and all its quirks. The chapters I've written have all focused on me, me, me. Which is really the least interesting part, in many ways.
I think that's a good sign of progress. That I'm bored with myself.
