Random Acts of Umbrellas
We planned a hike for our annual department outing, but it’s been raining all week and this afternoon was no exception. So our creative director broke us into small teams, and gave each team $25, and tasked us with finding creative ways to “make the day better.” We couldn’t spend it on ourselves, but otherwise there weren’t any parameters.
After thinking it over for a few minutes, my team drove to the Dollar Store and bought 24 umbrellas. Then we drove downtown and handed them out on the streets of Harrisburg.
Some people gave us suspicious looks. Others averted their eyes. A few tried to pay us. But most people were simply happy for the small kindness, and a little bit of shelter from the cold October rain.
It was a good way to spend a Thursday afternoon.
