T'was a lovely day to deface a Matisse.
My brother is visiting tomorrow and wants to do some paper marbling, so I mixed up a half gallon of carrageenan solution today and primed a few dozen papers.
The carrageenan solution has to sit overnight so that all the bubbles rise to the top and don't mar the surface of the marbled paper. But I had the itch to make something while I waited for tomorrow to arrive, so I dug my spray paints out of the garage and stenciled over the pages of Jazz by Matisse.
I've always loved Matisse's collages. The bright jewel tones and graphic lines served as a great base for the drips and splatter of the spray paint. Next step: painting with scissors.
