It changes you.
We went to a backyard barbecue at a new friend's house this evening. I brought an Oreo poke cake. The boys ran around like wild things, ate tortilla chips and had a great time.
Social situations hold more layers now that I'm a mother, but less anxiety. It seems like I should feel even more anxious than I did before I had children, being responsible as I am for two little boys who are prone to temper tantrums and farting in public. But mostly I just find myself feeling grateful for other people's hospitality, grateful that they're so quick to welcome me and the people I love most in the world.
