Garden Update: May 2017
I spent all afternoon and most of the evening in the garden.
By "garden," I mean the few small flower beds that wrap the front walk and the little raised bed in the back. Nothing fancy. But I've been working on those beds for ten years now, and everything is finally coming together.
Today I split the hostess and the salvia. Afterward I drove my dirty self to Lowes and bought cucumber, broccoli, peas, basil, marigolds and a pumpkin. Those I planted in the backyard. My sons helped.
"Will these grow into food?" the oldest asked. "Like, real food that we can eat?"
He seemed unconvinced.
I tried to practice restraint this year, by giving the vegetables more space than I normally would. Every year they crowd together and every year I kick myself for not following the instructions on the package.
Facebook reminded me that three years ago today, I also spent the day gardening. I took photographs of everything and posted them to my blog. It's funny to see how some things look so different and some things look the same.
